Guests arrived at the Academy Awards Viewing Party for cocktails followed by a gala dinner and viewing of the 85th Academy Awards® telecast. This year, Chef Gordon Ramsay, British celebrity chef, television personality, restaurateur, and holder of 14 Michelin stars, prepared an exquisite 5-course meal for guests that included chilled dungeness crab, braised beef short rib and sticky toffee pudding.

The dinner was followed by a lively auction. Auction items included an iconic photograph of Faye Dunaway the morning after she won her Best Actress Oscar for “Network” by famed photographer Terry O’Neill that sold for $120,000; two sets of tickets to join Sir Elton John and David Furnish at the legendary Vanity Fair party that sold for $150,000 each; five days at Steven Tyler’s Hawaiian retreat that sold for $250,000. Following the auction, soulful Scottish songstress Emeli Sandé took the stage to perform several songs including hit song “Next to Me,” much to the crowd’s delight.

In his remarks for the evening, EJAF Founder Sir Elton John celebrated the Oscar-nominated documentary How to Survive a Plague, praising the extraordinary work of the early AIDS activists portrayed in the film and calling for a renewed emphasis on AIDS advocacy.

“How to Survive a Plague tells the story of AIDS activism in the earliest and most terrifying years of the AIDS epidemic. But you know what? Today, that activism is needed now more than ever if we are to achieve the promise of an AIDS-free generation,” said Sir Elton. “Our Foundation is clear on what is needed, we’re vocal in standing for what we believe, and we invest in the work that needs to be done. And I promise you that we’ll keep on fighting until the politics and bureaucracies yield to reason and justice. I don’t care how long it takes, we’re going to fight, and we’re going to win.”

10th Annual Global Green USA’s pre Oscar Party

It was a ‘green’ night in Hollywood as eco-friendly celebrities gathered for Global Green USA’s 10th Annual Pre-Oscar Party. Stars such as Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Helen Hunt, Emmy Rossum, Ed O’Neill, Dylan McDermott, Sophia Bush, Josh Radnor and Catt Sadler mingled over dinner which was followed by a performance by seven-time Grammy Award winner Willie Nelson and his sons Lukas and Micah.

Hollywood’s elite activists and green-minded celebrities enjoyed a night of eco-friendly entertainment, including a VIP cocktail reception, and Patron dinner & program – which included a special musical performance by Warner Bros. recording artist LP – followed by KCRW’s DJ Garth Trinidad, and culminated with a headline performance by seven-time Grammy Award winner Willie Nelson and his sons Lukas and Micah. DJ Shy (KIIS FM), also spun in the Volt Lounge throughout celebrity arrivals. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Global Green USA’s work to build greener, more resilient homes, schools, and communities in areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
This year’s event featured automotive sponsor was the Chevy Volt electric vehicle, which chauffeured many of the attendees to the green carpet. The new Chevy Spark EV, which was just unveiled at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, was also on display. H&M, the world’s second largest fashion retailer, focusing on affordable fashion and sustainability, joined the event as the featured retail sponsor. “Conscious” is the name for all of the work the company does to offer a more sustainable fashion future. H&M is proud to have chosen Global Green USA to be the U.S. beneficiary and partner for the H&M global garment recycling program. Beginning Thursday February 21st 2013, customers will be able to hand in used garments in all 269 H&M stores in the US (and in all 48 H&M markets worldwide). Sustainability is an important part of H&M’s culture, and with this, the Swedish retailer strives to reduce the environmental impact of clothes throughout their lifecycle.

Other sponsors included Pureology, CoolHaus, Cade Estate Winery, Ehlers Estate, 360 Vodka, BlueAvocado and Turtle Island, the private island resort in Fiji and film location of the famous “Blue Lagoon” movie. Turtle Island offered a seven-day stay auction item in one of its luxurious villas (this world-renowned resort is powered largely by solar energy).

For the Patron Dinner, Chef Akasha Richmond of Akasha Restaurant in Culver City had custom-designed a farm-to-table menu from L.A.’s best farmer’s markets. Collaborating on decor were landscape designer Durie Design and floral designer Celadon & Celery. Celadon and Celery’s string gardens were a symbol of the strength of New Yorkers, who always find balance in the face of adversity. All of the plants from the event were donated to Silver Lake Farms.

Bvlgari displays Elizabeth Taylor jewelry collection

BEVERLY HILLS, California. For the first time ever, Bulgari will present and display a recently acquired eight-piece collection of Bulgari jewels that originally belonged to glamour icon Elizabeth Taylor. The unveiling will be held during a Roman-themed evening, presented to pay homage to both glamorous 1960s Rome and Bulgari’s Italian heritage.

The display, which will be housed in the new Bulgari Beverly Hills boutique, will include pieces Taylor obtained and wore during various momentous times of her life, from her filming of Cleopatra and romance with Richard Burton to her many film and philanthropic award nominations and wins. The collection includes Taylor’s first piece of Bulgari jewelry, an emerald and diamond En Tremblant brooch; the “Cleopatra Mirror,” a gold and turquoise encrusted mirror commissioned for Taylor, rumored to have been a gift for her 30th birthday; the “Taylor Burton fiancée ring;” a diamond brooch with a 23.44 octagonal step-cut diamond; an emerald and diamond necklace; a platinum sautoir with diamonds and sapphires; a Trombino ring that Taylor bought to compliment the platinum sautoir; and, lastly, one of Taylor’s most frequently worn pieces – a diamond and gold sautoir set with six ancient Roman coins.

It can be said that there couldn’t have been a more appropriate celebrity to have fallen in love with Bulgari. Some of Bulgari’s most celebrated characteristics can be likened to those of Taylor’s as well. Despite her unsurpassed glamorous lifestyle, she remained characteristically true, kind and grounded. Similarly, Bulgari is known for creating masterpiece jewels that unexpectedly combine precious stones with items of no intrinsic value: antique coins, ceramic and silk cords are just a few examples. Perhaps it was their mutual understanding of such unforeseen juxtapositions that drew her so close to Bulgari.

The setting of the event, in Los Angeles the week prior to the Oscars, will be designed to evoke 1960s Rome, when international movie stars flocked to the Eternal City to celebrate everything Italian, embracing indulgence and hedonism. Guests will be able to experience this nostalgic Roman moment set in the heart of contemporary Los Angeles.

ABOUT BVLGARI

Today part of the LVMH Group, Bulgari was founded in Rome in 1884 as a jewelry shop and progressively imposed itself with its magnificent jewelry creations, emblems of the Italian excellence.
